Moreton Wood is a 38 acre woodland.

Part of it is classified as Ancient Woodland which means there are records of it being there for 400 years.

Unfortunately this part was clear felled of the native broadleaf trees mostly oak, ash and elm that was growing there in the 1960's and replanted with conifers.
We are working to restore this part of the woodland back to native broadleaf by removing the conifer and allowing natural regeneration of broadleaf deciduous trees to occur.  See the woodland work page.

Another part is secondary woodland which means that is woodland that has grown up on neglected farm land.
This part also has some conifer plantation on it.

As we restore the woodland as coppice we can see the increase in bio diversity.
Flowers return, this creates a healthier insect population and this in turn supports a wider variety and greater number of birds.

These pages will (when I have completed them) show the flora and fauna that has been recorded in the wood.

Moreton Wood is a beautiful 38 acre woodland in Herefordshire sustainably managed for conservation and bio-diversity.

All the woodland work is undertaken with minimum impact on the flora and fauna of the woodland.  Hand tools are used where possible and a horse is used to do all the logging.

Timber that is removed for the good of the woodland ecology is used to make beautiful, individual hand made products.

Paul and Jo hold educational and fun events in the woodland to share their passion for woodland ecology and traditional woodland management.
